Finally a new newsletter!
It’s well and truly about time, don’t you think?

Our renovations are pretty well finished. We really appreciate the positive feedback and are glad our patients are enjoying the new surrounds, as we are. We’ve just got a bit of cosmetic tinkering to finish off.

Thanks to everyone for their perseverance during the work. We only had to close for three working days during the whole project which I felt was a fantastic effort. This was due to the good work of a number of people. I’m grateful for our builder Roger’s organising abilities and attention to detail and safety. This ensured we were still able to look after our patients despite minor obstacles like the front office suddenly being in the car park, the roof being replaced, walls ripped out, dark room becoming the toilet while the laundry became the darkroom, etc.

Many thanks to our painter, Agung, for all the painting on weekends and after hours to ensure no patient left the building wearing a Gould blue or Whisper white sleeve!

Welcome Dee
Many of you have already met Dee, our new member of staff. Dee joins Sue and Shannon at the front desk and we offer her a warm welcome to our team. Dee’s settling in beautifully after her first few sessions and will compliment the wonderful service provided by Sue and Shannon.

Children were lined up in a Catholic school canteen. On the counter was a large pile of apples with a note written by a nun ‘Take only ONE apple: God is watching’ Nearby was a large plate of choc-chip cookies. One young child whispered to his friend, ‘take as many as you want, God’s watching the apples'.

Reasons to have regular chiropractic care

  • To help a specific condition or injury. Chiropractic is not just for back and neck pain. Conditions such as headaches, migraine, vertigo, indigestion, sinusitis, asthma, constipation, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, bedwetting, torticollis, ear ache, period pain and shoulder pain may be helped with chiropractic care.
  • For injury prevention. The better your body is working the less likely you are to be injured. Many top athletes have regular chiropractic check ups to avoid injury, not just treat injuries.
  • To minimise degenerative changes. If your spine is restricted in some segments and very mobile in other segments then the joints will be inclined to wear more quickly leading to osteoarthritic changes. Similarly if your pelvic joints are misaligned, you will be more susceptible to degeneration in your knees, ankles and feet.
  • For enhanced wellbeing. Your body regulates, repairs and heals itself via your nervous system. Chiropractic care aims to ensure your nervous system can express itself optimally. Patients often report feeling more energetic, thinking more clearly, sleeping better, moving more freely and having better quality of life with Chiropractic care.

Make a Habit

At this time of year many people are assessing where they went off the rails with the new years resolutions. If exercising more was one of those resolutions, here is a tip we often give.

Don’t give yourself a day off!

Well I guess that sounds simple enough but not particularly helpful if lack of motivation is your problem. A scenario for many people is that they establish a good exercise program. Get right in to it for a little while. Then one or two things get in the way. They can’t get home in time for their 40 minute walk one day. They haven’t really got time for an hour or so at the gym the next day. A couple of days later they’re too tired for a swim. Suddenly a week later they’re back on the couch with a pack of Tim Tams watching Simpson’s re-runs and haven’t given the exercise program another thought.

You can get addicted to exercise. Even if you have spent a lifetime saying “I’m not the exercising type”. The hard part is getting into the habit. Once you are doing some exercise each day for a number of days you start to feel the benefits. The body starts to reward the brain with endorphins, those warm fuzzy, feel good chemicals. This combined with increased strength vitality and energy keeps you going back for more. So the trick is not breaking the cycle and maintaining the habit.

But what do you do if you truly don’t have time to make it to an exercise session? ………Still exercise! Just squeeze in a quick 15 (or even 5) minutes. You can have a brisk walk or do some floor exercises or some light weights. Ask us for some exercises that would suit you. Just don’t let yourself off the hook too easily. Consider that your body and mind deserve to be rewarded with exercise every day.

Clinton Meets Mandela
“Years ago I asked Mandela about the day of his release from jail: ‘You were a great man, you invited your jailers to your inauguration…….but tell me the truth. Weren’t you really angry all over again?’ And he said, ‘Yes, I was angry. And a little afraid. But when I felt that anger well up inside of me I realised that if I hated them after I got outside that gate, then they would still have me.’ And he smiled and said, ‘I wanted to be free so I let it go’. It was an astonishing moment in my life. It changed me.”
- Bill Clinton 1998

“When we got married my husband told me his mother always ironed his underpants, so I starched them and put in a neat knife pleat. He hasn’t mentioned it again!”

I decided to take an aerobics class; I bent, twisted and jumped up and down for nearly an hour. But, by the time I finally got my leotard on, the class was over!

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticise them, you are a mile away and you have scored yourself a pair of shoes!
