Chiropractic Care Week 19th -25th May
National Chiropractic Care week this year has the theme, “Get straight to sleep for a healthy life”.
As the spinal health experts, chiropractors are uniquely positioned to help Australians "get straight to sleep" by:
- Providing specialist advice on sleeping posture
- Helping individuals make informed choices when it comes to mattresses and pillows
- Caring for musculoskeletal conditions that may be preventing patients from a good night's sleep
- Providing advice on nutrition, exercise and lifestyle habits that may impact on sleep quality
In line with Chiropractic Care Week, during the month of May at Champion Chiropractic Centre we are offering Free Chiropractic Examinations for friends and family of our patients (who haven’t consulted us before). This is a complimentary check up that will determine if chiropractic care is likely to benefit that person, and if so, how.
X-Rays will not be taken during the consultation and no adjustments or treatment given. This is a great way for your friend or family member to find out for free, and with no obligation, if chiropractic care could help them.
Tips for quality sleep
- Have a regular chiropractic check up.
- Ensure you have a comfortable, supportive mattress and pillow. Ask your chiropractor for specialist advice.
- Adopt a healthy posture in bed. Don’t sleep on your stomach! Lying on your side and back are the best sleeping positions.
- Reduce your caffeine intake – avoid it 4 to 6 hours before bed.
- Use the bedroom for sleeping – 24 hour accessibility of TVs and computers can disrupt normal sleeping patterns.
- Avoid alcohol before bedtime, as it can cause you to wake up during the night.
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day, but avoid high intensity physical exercise just before bedtime. If exercising in the evening, try to do so at least 2-3 hours before going to sleep.
- Relax before bedtime. Try to forget about work and paying the bills! If things are on your, mind write down a “to do” list before going to bed. Free your mind and body for sleep.
- Learn to meditate.

Jokes from the late great Tommy Cooper
I went to the butchers the other day and I bet him 50 quid that he couldn't reach the meat off the top shelf. He said, "No, the steaks are too high."
Two elephants walk off a cliff...boom, boom!
What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.
So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me "Can you give me a lift?" I said "Sure, you look great, the world's your oyster, go for it.'
"You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, 'Parking Fine.' So that was nice."
Can a Chiropractor help with painful bone spurs?
Many people are told that they have "bone spurs" in their back, neck, or other part of the skeleton with the implication that the spurs are the cause of their pain. However, while spurs are an indication that there is degeneration, these bony growths are not usually the actual cause of the pain. Spurs are in fact smooth structures that form over a prolonged period of time. The correct term for bone spurs is osteophytes, and they represent an enlargement of the normal bony structure, usually in response to abnormal mechanical stresses. These stresses are usually what is causing the pain and may be postural or subluxation (restricted misaligned joints). The role of the chiropractor is aimed at removing the reason behind the development of the spurs. This is through adjustment of the subluxations and postural, lifestyle and exercise advice.
